Spain

Spain is located on the Iberian Peninsula of which it occupies approximately 80%. This diverse country is rich in history, culture and has a population of approximately 40 million people, with 3 million living and working in the hectic capital Madrid.

Most of Spain has a Mediterranean climate with mild winters and hot summers, although the mountainous north is colder and wetter.

Direct from the developer

Spain is not just about Flamenco music and bullfighting, it has more to offer than that! It is and has been for thousands of years, one of Europe’s cultural centres. With its beautiful cities and towns embedded in history and fantastic architecture, this is an attractive and captivating country whether you visit as a tourist or have a view to buying property. One of the country’s biggest attractions is undoubtedly its long stretches of coastline, particularly along the Costa del Sol. Hotel and villa complexes have transformed some areas, however charming niches still remain. Spain has given birth to many talented artists – including Salvador Dali, the surrealist painter and Pablo Picasso, one of the most prolific artists in history. During Fiestas there is always something to entertain but, whether you are just walking down the street, or enjoying the atmosphere of a bar or club, you’ll be infected by the Spaniard’s exuberance.
Map of Spain

Costa del la Luz
The ‘Coast of Light’ is situated approximately 10 miles from the Portuguese border. The sand is finer and a more golden colour than its neighbouring Costa del Sol and its coastline features beautiful long stretches of golden beaches that face out to the Atlantic. The temperatures are slightly milder and the often strong Atlantic breezes and waves are favoured by wind surfers and surfboarders alike, it is also popular for snorkelling, surfing, swimming, cycling and walking where picturesque marked routes can be enjoyed. Fishing is also another favourite pastime along this coast.

Costa del Sol
With over 300 days of sunshine per year, the ‘Sun Coast’ is a wonderful place to enjoy a few rounds of golf. With over 35 courses and more being built, it is little wonder that the area attracts golfers from all across the globe. Remember back to 1997, it was chosen to host the most important event in the golfing calendar – The Ryder Cup! In fact, the Costa del Sol really does seem to have something for everyone, year round sunshine, sandy beaches, excellent sporting facilities and exciting nightlife. Local tourist destinations include Malaga, the capital of the region and the extravagant Marbella, well renowned for its ‘Golden Mile’ – a stretch of beautiful gardens and luxury hotels in addition to its successful residents.

Costa Blanca
The ‘White Coast’ is set between the provinces of Murcia and Valencia. The coastline varies from small bays enclosed by steep cliffs, to long sandy beaches. With hundreds of kilometres of the best beaches in Europe, all of the coast beaches are controlled by the European Community, which sets quality levels for the swimming areas. The climate in this area is excellent, with an average temperature of 18°C in winter and 32 °C in summer. The area also boasts protected natural areas that host a great variety of sea birds including flamingos and ospreys. Served by Alicante and San Javier Murci airports, excellent road networks, well equipped marinas and every amenity, Costa Blanca is an ideal location.

Costa Brava
The ‘Rugged Coast’ is one of Spain’s best kept secrets. It owes its name to a series of mountain ranges that run headlong into the sea, forming rocky crags that give it a wild and rugged appearance. Between the headlands are small secluded coves, several long stretches of sandy beaches and pine groves running down to the water’s edge. The area boasts excellent sporting facilities including parachuting (world championships are regularly held in Empuriabrava), hiking, cycling, horse-riding and a good selection of golf courses. There is also a wide range of watersports at the numerous marinas and yacht clubs. Blue not only represents the colour of the sky and sea, but it is also the colour of the flags awarded to the area showing that the waters are free of pollution and the beaches are of the highest standard.
